Tuesday 6th December 2011 Savusavu

Today we sailed into Savusavu which is known as  Fiji’s Hidden Paradise. It has everything you will need to enjoy the very best of Fiji.

It boasts one of the most spectacular harbour's in the South Pacific, It's serene waters are dotted with islands. Rugged volcanic ridges, their slopes covered in rain forest, tower above coastal plains Coconut palms and old copra plantations line the southern shore.

Nestled between green hills and deep water Nakama Creek, Savusavu has only one main street that is a hub of activity, it is  Fiji’s second largest island.

We noticed a couple riding around on a scooter and we made enquires about hiring one and going to look around the island ... but they were all booked out...I would have liked to have gone and seen the "Garden of the Sleeping Giants" The late American actor Raymond Burr founded the garden in 1977 to house his collection of rare orchids. Today the garden boasts one of the world's largest orchid collections with over 2000 varieties on view..

After walking up and down the main street, and buying a few gifts for home and taking a few pictures of the local orphan children singing for money donation ..we decided to head back...

After stopping for a cool drink in a cafe we caught the tender back to the ship as it was too hot to hang around shore.
